What is Villa Park High School Hockey?
VP Hockey is a non-profit corporation formed to advance inline roller hockey at Villa Park High School ("VPHS"). The organization has formed a team which competes in a High School league at the varsity level. The team is not school-sponsored, nor affiliated with VPHS or Orange Unified School District ("OUSD"). hoisting the infamous “Blood Cup”.
This is the second consecutive year that VP
Hockey won the Varsity Division Championships in this annual event.
The tournament is held each year in support of Children’s Hospital
of Orange (“CHOC”) and the Orange County Blood Bank, and features
teams from across California, with competitions for both Varsity &
JV High School teams, as well as Division 1 and 2 College teams.
Last year the tournament contributed $25,000 to CHOC along with 138
pints of blood to the OC Blood Bank. In 2009 – the sponsors (which
include the Anaheim Ducks), pledged $100,000 to CHOC to build an
Oncology Patient Care Room in the new wing of the hospital, and
contributed over 200 pints of blood donated to the OC Blood Bank.
The Spartans faced a field of 34 other High School teams to win the
Varsity Championship.
